A friend had once reported seeing a 9 minute speedrun of FO1, but I watched it years ago and I'm not sure whether or not it included violence. I was amazed that the game could really be beaten in so short a time, but that's not what I'm trying to ask for.
I'm curious to know whether or not it's possible to go the whole game without killing a single soul. And I don't mean by taking shortcuts either. Doing the entire quest - going through the main towns, fulfilling something other than the default ending for each, etc.
Do you think it's possible? |

I'm not sure. I tried that a while ago. I tried having it so my companions did the killing that was needed, but even then it charts it as your kill. |

Well, there's killing, then there's killing.
It's possible to go the entire game without a fight, aside from random encounters, but to defeat the Master you have to kill him even if you don't fight him. |

Hmm. Maybe there's a way to kill him without killing him. Like, with an accidental grenade drop. Would you guys be interested in seeing such a playthrough done? |

No, no, no ! Surely you recall that you can convince the Master to kill himself. That's entirely different to actually killing someone. Yes.
Sadly, your quest to only inspire mass murder will be a short one, why ? An absence of rat diplomacy. |

I totally forgot about that. I was thinking about setting the nuclear bomb underneath the cathedral to go off. |

I contend that it is fault of the owner if, IF, they choose to store unsecured, unstable thermonuclear devices on their property. Yes, I know Lou has the key - but in my experience that would only incentivise such a ploy.
So, no, I do not believe use of the bomb counts as 'killing'. |

While I agree the owner is completely liable for any and all detonations from keeping an unsecured nuclear weapon, the dictionary definition of killing is to perform an action that results in the death of another.
I would go so far as to say that the Master in this case is liable for his own death even though he was killed by the player's hand. |

I've never tried it because I always play the Guy who just talks shit and gets the objectives done while doing a few odd jobs for equipment in between.
I'm sure it's near possible, though. If you're looking for that kind of thing you wont find anything much closer. |

Without directly killing someone? Maybe. I'm not quite certain. Impossible without being directly-indirectly responsible for the death of another [Master suicide, atomic detonation, etc.], thus murder by proxy. THE JIG IS UP.
If you're going that route, since death is inevitable, just make a non combat character with high charisma and remind yourself how much we all love giving Ian that SMG. |

One time he managed to kill Dogmeat and Tandi in the same battle.
Ian's great.

I was hoping to just have an ultra-good natured character solve the Vault problem sans any kind of party-related death. Maybe I'll just ask Decker to put a hit on the Master for me. Or toss a crate of iguana meat on the Master's (metaphorical) lap and let Dogmeat go nuts..
Though I would say that convincing the Master of his folly plan and thus having him commit suicide would fall under my category of walking away with clean hands. I'm going to do a Charisma-driven run and see how far I can get. What do I have to do to convince him again? I know it has something to do with revealing mutant sterility but I totally forgot what that means in terms of objectives. |
