Ammo Text Spelling Error in Core Campaign

Post by OnTheBounce »

There is a spelling error in FoT's core ammo.txt file that invalidates an ammo subtype. The error is in "Depleted Uranium". The hardcoded type is misspelled as "Depleted Uranuim". To get the type to display properly, paste the following lines into your ammo.txt file:

{name_Depleted Uranuim} = {Depleted Uranium}
{short_Depleted Uranuim} = {DU}

Incidentally, the DU subtype makes for an excellent AP substitute for those of you working w/FO and FO2 weapons.

If you are using mainly JHP and AP subtypes for your weapons and have them set to do the same number of damage points as in the RPGs you will still encounter the problem from those games in which AP ammo is nearly always outperformed by JHP due to the large disparity in damage modifiers. I've found that setting the AP entity to "Depleted Uranuim" [sic] and then modifying your ammo.txt file to change the displays as appropriate is a good way to overcome the hard-coded ammo subtypes, since you're effectively altering the damage and penetration modifiers.

The "Refined" type is also a good setting to use for 2mm EC and 4.7mm Caseless ammo as it effectively gives the 3/2 Damage Mod of those types in the RPGs.

Cheers,

OTB
