I did the same thing about 2 years ago. It was as good as I remembered. The setup was messy, though.

theres actually an auto-updater that you can get now that allows you to check off whatever additions and enhancements you want and it downloads and installs them for you

Yeah, the messy install was the only thing preventing me from using it, as quite frankly i couldn't get it to work. I might give it another go now.

Yep. FS2 owns. One of the few games I'd replay over and over again. Too bad the genre died.

For unexplained reasons i suddenly began to remember a very old game i played on a Mac once!

It was top down, you where in space (you being defined as a spaceship) and you had to fly through diffrent solar systems and trade goods, fight of space pirates (or attack cargo carriers and board the ship for its valuable cargo and sell it somewhere else, it was up to you), buy weapons, repair you spaceship (or buy a new and better one).

You could play it in any way you wanted to. Be a honerable tradesman, or be a pirate, be a mecernary or be a hero. Everything you did within a solar system affected your status in that solar system. When you got powerfull enough you could attack planets and actually end up owning them.

The controls were simelar to asteroids!

Gawd i wish i could remember the name of that game! i want to play it again so bad

Escape Velocity ?

I believe there is a reasonably faithful conversion¹ of it available for the third game, Escape Velocity : Nova. :drunk:

¹May not be the plugin that I recall.

Tried it a few years ago but couldn't figure out how to turn because I was using a mouse and keyboard. Is it still playable with that or do you need a joystick?

You shouldn't need a joystick or at least I didn't.

I played it with keyboard only, pretending I was in the fighter, working the clunky controls on manual.
