Making vacuum tubes by hand

Post by TelemachusSneezed »

Some French guy posted a video about how to make a triode by hand.

http://paillard.claude.free.fr/

So one could technically rebuild remnants of electronic technology by hand. The implications of this shouldn't be lost on Fallout fans: one can build they're very own water-chip with patience, hard-work, and some foundational technologies, like an adapted flame-thrower for instance. :joy:

I don't know French, but I guess it means there was an error and France surrendered.

Well, technically any good programmer and engineer can use a computer to emulate the output of the controller chip, unless the chip is using some sort of rare, one of the kind sensors made from to gather information. Even then, the chip architecture must be thoroughly documented before any repair, replication, or simulation is to be attempted...

Or are you proposing some kind of Fallout 1 mod?

Great link, btw
Fallout mod, no. But I really enjoyed Arcanum for the ability (albeit really simplified) to build technologies from pieces and plans scattered around the world. It would have been really interesting if one of the paths you could have taken in Fallout 1 was actually tracking down the parts and plans. I seem to recall that people on this forum were proposing something similar for FO3, when we still cared.

You're right about emulation of course, but you are assuming that denizens of the Vaults had the ability and knowledge to program their own computers. I'm assuming that they did not, which would explain why the planned failures of many of the other vaults couldn't have been prevented. And anyways, it's always much more fun to go the hard way: physically build your own water-chip. :)
