[ Game -> Interview ] - News related to Top Story: Fallout 3 news | More info on Game: Fallout 3
Our favourite Bethesda PR guy, Pete Hines, has been interviewed by PCGZine and had this to say: PCG: Players can expect different
outcomes if they thread a neutral path in Fallout 3. Will you be
tripping conservative players up with disproportionately good/evil
outcomes if they try to mind their own business?
Hines: Yes, whether your karma is good, evil, or
neutral, you’ll experience different things. At one point in the game,
if you’re evil, the good guys try to kill you, or if you’re good the
evil guys try to kill you. If you’re neutral, everybody leaves you
alone. So there are drawbacks and advantages for neutral just as there
are for good and evil players, and we’ve spend a lot of time working on
the gameplay options and outcomes for that “grey” area in between as
sometimes the most interesting choices can be found there.

At one point in the game.
. .
Evidently, such profundity would only be cheapened, were it replicated or dispersed. |

I thought Bethesda was into "order" and "chaos", not "good" and "evil"
Regardless, this may be one topic I am pleased to hear - Oblivion seemed so bland no matter what you did, and as for joining a "faction" so people would like you, and others would hate you ... |

Every action game masqueraded into an RPG boasts with good, evil and neutral paths. I guess it makes quest design easier. I wish they'd drop the karma system, and just have outcomes. |

I always want to be evil but then I always end up being good... te he he.. aren't I just full o' the dickens?
Lame. When I play Fallout, my character survives. He isn't some Disney villian and he isn't a knight in shining armor. He does the shit that has to be done. It's black and white with these boys though, ain't it.
We hate you 'cause you're in their club!

why wouldn't the evil people attack the neutrals? or other evil people?
crime = the worst thing about it is you can't trust your associates?
or perhaps a religious zealot who believes himself the second incarnation, and his task to smite anything not completely good? oh well...so much for moral gray area.... |

If it had a moral gray area, that would imply that it was a Fallout game, Caleb. We don't want that, do we?

Bethesda stopped being groundbreaking with Daggerfall. |

I'm sure tons of people, after reading this, will think Bethesda invented something. |

You people are so wrong; Bethesda always finds new innovative ways to let you down. |

Like with Oblivion, the game mags were let down but didn't even realize it till they previewed Fallout 3. Now that's innovation. Incredible! |

I actually had to read that line a few times, that's some deep games design right there, also admitting their scope of characters translate into good guy bad guy neutral guy like there's some kind of switch inside us all. At least this gave me a chuckle before i realized how sad it is. |
