Bethesda threatens to sue Glutton Creeper

Pretty sad word from <a href="http://gluttoncreeper.com/" target="_self">Glutton Creeper Games</a> today:<blockquote>May 8th, 2007: ZeniMax Media/Bethesda has threatened to file an injunction against GCG for damages, should we not cease and deist production of Fallout PnP d20 products. They are stating that Interplay never had the rights to license a Pen and Paper to GCG under their license of Fallout from 2004 before the purchase of the IP, and makes claims against GCG that it may damage the Fallout brand and forecoming Fallout 3 release by linking the two. So for now, we have removed the page, until a resolution is met. If you want to see Fallout PnP d20 releases, please let the people at ZeniMax Media/Bethesda know, but don't send them hate mail or flames.

Our first product was being sent for review this weekend to Interplay, and still will be, as we hope Interplay will get this sorted out with Bethesda.</blockquote>I'm not really sure how the contract before the IP sale effects Fallout d20, but I'm not a lawyer. I guess we'll wait and see how it goes, but it's not looking good.

Aside from the blatant irony, we're talking about completely different markets and volumes when comparing cRPGs and PnP gaming. Yet ZeniMax/Bethesda chose this path instead of cooperation. I hope they can come up with a resolution that satisfies both parties and that d20 gets shipped out asap.

Despicable? While I have little faith in Bethesda, I appreciate them getting rid of the worst abomination with Fallout slapped on the cover since FOBOS.

I was looking forward to see the completed version, especially since they made revisions based on some of the criticisms by the community. Whether it would've been the worst Fallout abomination since FOBOS is debatable but it certainly isn't up to Bethesda to decide.

Hey, if I took a shit (which I shall be doin in a few mins) and added the text 'Fallout3' and uploaded it would I get sued too ?

People tend to forget that GCG is NOT a fan project, and NOT a noncommercial one either. Moreover, GCG was the first to make legal threats to FAN projects, so really Bethesda is the benefactress here, especially considering the overall crappiness of GCG's project.

From what little I've seen Glutton are the suckiest sucks that ever sucked, even if some of their interior art was decent. The cover art pretty much blows and if that sets the tone of the project then we might be thanking BettySoft for saving what coherent FO canon remains.
