First Real Fallout 3 News!

Post by King of Creation »

<strong>[ Game -> Preview ]</strong> - News related to <a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/archives.php ... ry=14">Top Story: First News on Fallout 3</a> | More info on <a href="#Bethesda Softworks">Company: Bethesda Softworks</a> | More info on <a href="#Fallout 3">Game: Fallout 3</a>

<p>There's a column about <em>Fallout 3</em> in the December issue of <a href="http://pcgamer.gamesradar.com/" target="_self">PC Gamer</a>, and it finally reveals at least SOME information about the game that we're all axiously anticipating. Here's a scan:</p><p align="center"><a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/disp ... ?pos=-1058" target="_self"><img border="0" src="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/albu ... rdec06.jpg" /></a> </p><p align="left">I am very happy about what this article has to say. They appear to be listening to us. From a setting on the East coast (per our and NMA's poll), to keeping the same type of atmosphere (at least in the concept art), <a href="http://www.bethsoft.com" target="_self">Bethesda</a> looks to be on the right track.</p><p align="left">Also check out the mug! Look familiar? </p><p align="left">Thanks for the tip <strong>Briosafreak</strong>! </p>

This isn't news on the game, it's just news that atleast SOME people aren't stupid in the gaming community and want a fallout more true to the original than Oblivion with dah guns.

And that it's set on the east coast so Bethesda can safely ignore canon and Make Their Own Shit Up.

Hey, it worked for FOT! Wait, no...it didn't...

The thing about FOT, though, is that the game took place in a shit location. No one cares about that part of the country. I've been advocating for the East Coast all along. You've got the Pentagon, DC, New York, Boston....tons of places that could make for an amazing setting.

FOT was originally going to be set on the east coast, the Florida Keys for part. That still wouldn't have helped it, much. True the locations would be a bit more interesting on the east coast, but you have to wonder what it has to do with Fallout's storyline and setting. Unless there's going to be another "hidden Vault-Tec FEV facility" like F:POS... FEV was fairly well-isolated in its development from the Glow to the Military Base, to the point of it becoming quite a surprise when revealed to the public (who thought it was a form of the New Plague), and the whole experimenting upon soldiers was a bit of a sore point for the soldiers' comrades.

True, but you have to imagine that the Pentagon had to have some involvement in FEV's development, including, but not limited to, samples of the virus being stored at the Pentagon, or an area facility.

I think that this article not only shows some hope Bethsoft pulling off the game. It also shows hope that the mainstream gamming community isn’t a complete loss.

Having some VERY sound advice being given to Bethsoft from such a high profile, mainstream, gaming magazine can be nothing but beneficial.

I for one believe that this sort of thing is exactly what this community should be standing behind. I intend on righting a letter of kudos to the editor about this article and encourage the rest of you to do the same!

editor@pcgamer.com

If righting a letter is not your style. Perhaps you might want to start a thread in their forum

It's news. It's better than nothing. The writer of the article has no basis to make any of the assumptions or comments he makes based upon enviromental concept art. I'm guessing he was just itching to rant about Fallout 3 and saw enough to spark his imagination.

The problem with developers is that they need money... Creative and intelligent people make the best developers... Creative and intelligent people are smart enough to realise that hard work is a mistake and hence never have enough money to back up a development team. Therefore complete arseholes with sufficient blind dedication to earn lots of money lead said teams are are those who decide upon what games contain... Therefore articles like this will have about as much impact, in all likelihood, as a lemon meringue on a brick wall.

Eh-he-he. I talked clevertalk. :?

The Pentagon is an office building.

FEV would be at a secret place with the right facilities.

Or not so secret.

Isn't the east cost supposed to be a radiated dump? Like, a glow across the country?

always did think a radioactive manhattan (ideally partially flooded and with a big crater in the middle of it) would be rather cool.

the only problem with the east coast is it lacks that distinct '50s diner/googie architecture/driving around in my caddy feeling that california haas in spades. the east coast also lacks republicans and that distinct cowboy 'frontier justice' feel. but it has a pretty strong atmosphere of its own, though i have no idea what a '50s retrofuture vision of it would be like, nor what distinctive 'feel' it should have.

the cities ('specially dc & ny) should all be uber-advanced looking though. less googie and more art deco plz. throw the chrysler building (and some other old landmarks as well, i guess) into the game for a laugh.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Send Bethesda the Fallout Bible.

As long as Bethesda doesn't try to rewrite FO history by making FO3 before FO1, they have chance.
