I mostly use Russian-made 9mm surplus ammo.

Just because I don't buy pussy guns that can't handle a little scratch and wear from steel cased ammo.

Actually shooting the 1911a1 "homie-style" was attempted and it really didn't accomplish much of anything. They brass still seemed to fly precariously around your head area, and well. It's shooting a pistol sideways, so it was completely pointless.

You aren't so much going to break your wrist as you are likely to shoot your neighbor at the range when you do something like that, and that's not a good thing.

The 37 stakeout was the fucking bizzomb.

Also, the bulk 7.62x39 that you buy up here for your Vz.858 or SKS or mini 30 is steel cased (you can get something like 1300 rounds for just 17 cents a bullet, it's goddamned awesome). Only problem is it's verboten in most ranges here because it just loves to travel through hard objects, and if it can't keep going. I would assume it'd bounce before it went splat.

Do you mean steel CORE, because steel CASED with lead core bullets isn't all that different from brass cased. The reason it's banned at most ranges is likely because they sell the spent brass they clean up off the range and they're too fucking lazy to pick out the steel casings. If they were smart they wouldn't give a shit and would instead get a big magnet.

If it is indeed steel core then yes, it has a habit of going through things since it's technically armor piercing. They stopped making it and using it though because it was found all it did to people was put a little hole in them. No expansion, no tumbling, just zoop, out the other side. A lot of times the guy wouldn't even know he got shot until someone told them they were bleeding.

It's rather hard to get steel core ammo here in the states because there was a ban on steel cased pistol ammunition because of it's armor-piercing qualities. Steel core ammo for a rifle is okay still, but many don't import it because they think it's illegal. I've got a box of Chinese steel core 7.62x25mm, came with my CZ52. I'm not going to shoot none of it though since it's sort of collectable.

And on another note the SHOT Show starts Thursday, there's a buzz that SIG is releasing a new rifle and showcasing it at the SHOT Show. Rumor has it that it's a domestically made SIG550 or 551 that will take AR15 magazines. Of course until it's officially announced this is just forum banter and those that propagated the rumor as God's truth will be sodomized.

I think it's gonna cost $1.3k - $1.5k or even more.

I use Federal Eagle for .38, just because I bought the gun a few days ago, so I didn't get a chance to buy .38 in bulk.

My revolver skill sucks, I can hit man-sized target at 7 yards, but the grouping is abysmal. With my CZ75 Compact, I can confidently take headshots at 20 yards.

Miami shootout analysis is bullshit. I'm still amazed at how they used a SINGLE incident to justify the move to 10mm.

This is the thing SIGArms is announcing at the SHOT Show. Looks like a mutant M4 that was spliced with a SIG55x. If that's the standard model I am very dissapointed.

There is no rear sight, why does it have an M4 style stock? The reason the M4 uses a stock like that is because it needs a place for the buffer tube, the SIG doesn't because it's essentially a super refined AK. Furthermore the rail looks to be welded onto the upper, so you can't take it off. Looks like the flash hider is on upside down too.

I can live with the AR15 magazine thing, the rest of it I simply do not like. Hopefully aftermarket parts will be available to make it look more like a true SIG55x

Federal Eagle 130 or 150 grains bullet ?

7 yds is very near , how's your 5 shot grouping ?

that's good man , but in a self defence situation isn't that a bit too agressive. :hahano:

nothing seems to be wrong with the flash hider. :?

I'm not sure, really, I tossed the box. lol, I only fired one box so far anyway, geez...

The grouping? About 8", iirc

Check out the 4th photo in the link, the slits in the flash suppressor should always point upward, to decrease muzzle climb and to prevent hot gas from kicking up dust and dirt if you're in prone position.

Aonaran wrote:Think my No. 4 cost me 135. It's in great condition, not all matching but mostly and that which isn't exact is close. I'm thinking of putting a spray and bake finish on it because hand blueing can be so uneven. And no, it isn't ungodly expensive but it's expensive enough that you wince a little after shooting the last round of a box. I've looked into getting a bayonet as well but they just look so fagging goofy.
it's cheap , military surplus ? you bought ammo already ?

cheap miltary surplus ammo : http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=213916

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure. It's probably steel cased, however I'm not sure there's any way to definitely tell. Either way. The guys who run the indoor range I go to speak nothing but bad things about "steel rounds bouncing around and blowing pieces off the walls and backstop".

So they have a magnet they go through with all the ammo you bring to the range to see if it has any steel in it.

Unless steel core ammo is just a steel bullet all the way from the outside inward, then chances are it's got a steel jacket and a lead core.

And, yeah I heard about that sig slated to be produced down south. I kinda like the one we get up here a bit more, looks more like the traditional sig assault rifle variant.

What with all this talk about 7.62x25, and hearing that you can pick up a norinco Tokarev up here for about 147 dorrah, really makes me think about picking up a cheap-o plinker, since I can also get the ammo for it up here, in bulk, for supa-cheap.

I would imagine a norinco tokarev isn't the pinnacle of accuracy, but does anyone know of any similar pistols in that caliber I may want to look out for? Or perhaps any opinions or experiences with norinco pistols?

From what I've heard from most people. They're ok, and really you get what you pay for.

Which is fine by me.

7.62x52mm has VERY limited choice of firearms made for it. Your only other firearm would probably be WW2 submachine gun.

There's also CZ52, but from what I've heard, they're crap when it comes to ergonomics.

Looks fine to me aswell. But it appears to be of the original birdcage design, rather than the modified one that is current military issue. The only difference is that the bottom gas port was deleted, as it tends to kick up dust and whatnot if you're shooting prone in the field, which makes you blind, and shows where you are. Both very good things if you're looking to get shot.

Is the Wolf Brand ammunition any good. I know they have a lot of ammo in bulk and in air tight cans (good for long term stroage) but is the round clean or is it not worth an investment?

Wolf ammo in 7.62x39mm is excellent, especially the new stuff. Other calibers however have reputation for being too dirty.

Personally, I don't care if it's dirty. I've found Winchester white-box to be much worse ammo than Russian brands, both in terms of quality control and dirt.

Okay, I will go on the 7.62x39mm Recommendation. I plan on getting an AK-47 when the money comes along. And well cheap and well a lot of ammo is desired.
