Another Scifi Smallscreen Disaster

Post by Mad Max RW »

<strong>[ Film & TV -> Article ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... icho">Film & TV: Jericho</a>

<p>Am I the only person who despises these hour long
scifi/drama crapfests choaking the airwaves today? Firefly, Stargate,
Battlestar Galactica among others are (or were) about as exciting as
The Young and the Restless. If you dig this stuff and visit DAC
expecting a mention of something that vaguely resembles the
post-apocalypse, then boy do I have a treat for you.

<a href="http://www.variety.com/" target="_blank">Variety</a>
is reporting <strong>CBS</strong> greenlit a pilot for
"<strong>Jericho</strong>," <span class="article">a <em>"Chbosky-penned hour about a small town in
Kansas that's dealing with life after a series of nuclear attacks
destroys most of America's big cities."</em> </span><span class="infusedLink">Jon Turteltaub ("National Treasure") will direct the pilot and executive produce with writer Stephen </span><span class="article">Chbosky ("Rent").</span></p><p>That's
all I have for now. Check the original articles <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR111793 ... en+chbosky" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR111793 ... ay=jericho" target="_blank">here</a>. Thanks to <strong>Skool</strong> at
the <a href="http://pamedia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=421" target="_blank">Pamedia forums</a> for the tip. </p>

This is one of those deals that had a chance to be decent if it was 20 years ago. Today every single big budget series blows all their money on a single 3 second effects shot and the rest of the hour is filled with overacting bullshit and cliched love triangles.

Battlestar Gallactica is one of the best shows on TV And has gotten enough positive reviews and viewers to prove it. It's my favorite, ranking right up there, perhaps even overtaking Lost... . Farscape was another good show and I always did like The Invisible Man, even though it did't last very long... I never did get into watching Firefly because I was in the Army and didn't have cable at the time, but the movie was pretty good. Sci-Fi does throw out an amazing series every now and then... They really struck gold with BSG. Simply put, it's a beautiful, well acted and compelling show.... It's got depth. Anyone remember Space Above and Beyond? That wasn't too bad either, BSG kinda reminds me of it to some extent. Any ways... My show list...
#1 BSG and Lost
#2 Surface and Grey's Anatomy
#3 My Name is Earl
#5 Dirty Jobs & Mythbusters
#6 Invasion, though I don't really watch it
#7 Random CSI Shows every now and then, including NCSI

#2 Off season... *prepares to be hit with many stones*... Survivor

That's all I can think of right now.

You want something good, and nicely fucked-up? Give Nip/Tuck a shot. I've seen sit on there that's even surprised me. nothing like Anal rape to open the season, huh?

Yeah I've seen Nip\Tuck, its pretty good. I saw the show where that bitch cut herself in the mouth and the docs operated on her and she could feel everything. Crazy assed karma.

Well, I certainly hope the first post nuclear TV series makes it to the stupid masses. If European networks decide to show it too, that's another issue. The last show that somehow resembled post apocalypse was Jeremiah and it was rather crap.
Firefly, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica
I watched a couple episodes of Stargåte only because of Richard Dean Anderson. Turned out he wasn't as inventive as MacGyver or as cool as Killian.

last time I saw a few matches and they do tend to get rough, one player swallowed his tougue and them medics had to pull it back up.
But I watch it for the tackles and elbows

I still think Quantum Leap was the best scifi show in recent years.
I watched Firefly and remembered they'd have one scene of pure awesomness and the next 58 minutes was lots of talk. The new Battlestar Galactica is just painful. I like Edward James Olmos, but he doesn't save the show. The shit camera movement, shit actors, and shit story leads up to an hour of shit. Never seen Lost because I can't stand half assed cliff hanger mysteries. I'm not even going to begin to list why Stargate sucks so much. The movie was good. Let's leave it at that.

Someone mentioned Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters. Those two, along with Survivorman, are the only shows I watch regularly. Survivorman is on the Science Channel (one of Discovery's sister channels) and deals with this guy who's dropped in the middle of nowhere and left to fend for himself for a week. The gimmick is he also plays the role as a camera crew. He lugs the shit around with him while trying to stay alive.

:( I liked it. It's one of the reasons I discovered I loved post-apocalyptic. But it was surely only that that I liked.

Let's hope the new show doens't give bad rep to post-apocalyptic...

Jeremiah was very hit or miss, which was surprising since it was a JMS show. BSG is pretty good, but there's a fair amount of shitty stuff there.

Anyways, who the fuck is Stephen Chbosky?
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
