Were they visitors? Maybe they were art students who had a class there? It just doesn't add up. Probably transvestites.
Females... cafeteria... they were probably cooking?
That's the point exactly: the killer couldn't understand that there were girls studying engineering. It's all about sexism. So he showed his point by killing some.

I think I've spent enough time with CZ to form an opinion.

It's a relatively heavy (30+ oz, compared to 20 oz Glock) compact pistol chambered for 9mm Luger. Double-action/single action design, with a conveniently low safety switch. Standard magazine can house 14 rounds, white-dot sights are standard too. As is usual with DA/SA pistols, DA trigger pull is long and heavy, while SA pull is short and light. Trigger slap is strong and may be painful at first, but bearable. Grips are wide and comfortable. I ran American Eagle, Winchester "whitebox", and Silver Bear (hollowpoint) through it, with no jams (then again, since I bought it used, it's probably already long since broken in). Overall, it's a great range gun, and a good self-defense gun, if you're comfortable with 9mm (which I'm not anymore).

You guys sure do know a lot about guns. D: I should too if the Apocalypse EVER comes... I'd like to go and try a firing range to try shooting a gun someday. What would be a good first gun?

If by gun you mean firearms...

Try a rifle in .22LR caliber. It's light and cheap, and so is the ammo. I don't know the gun market in Canada so I can't recommend any particular model. Avoid single-shot rifles, they're good for beginners but when you want to move up to rapid shooting you're out of luck. Ruger 10/22 is pretty popular here, and Savage is even cheaper.

Seriously, the question would've been a lot easier to answer if you lived in US.

I also have a hunting airgun, it's a real monster (for an off-the-shelf airgun, of course). Accelerates the pellet to 1000 feet per second, has a hard-plastic Monte Carlo stock, and weighs more than 10/22 and Savage put together. I love it. Obliterates 2x4's at 5 yards.

It's always good to shoot zombies accurately in the head.

America's Army(on Linux :)) has given me some taste(surely temporary) for guns. I want to try some for myself, even though I always hated guns and they never interested me, I may find a new addiction...

APOCALYPSE NOW!!!!! :salute::rockon::salute: (or after I trained enough)

(If I was American, just for writing this, there'd be Homeland Security at my door in about 30 minutes...)

Most people who hate gus have never shot one, thats why I try and make it a point to take them out to the range and give them the proper firearm safety training and then let 'em put a few bullets down range. Never fails, full conversion every time. I think having someone other than Swarzeneggar (or some redneck that is gonna slap you with the biggest fucking gun he has FIRST to show you how macho he is) as your firearm use and safety represenative might be what makes the difference.
my vocabulary skills is above you.

There's a military base a few minutes of bus from my house, I know someone who trains for tennis there, I'll ask him to get info about a shooting range there.

So after a fiasco with some people pulling into our driveway with a van and attempting to rob us last week, my wife has decided we need more than a bat and machette. She wants a pistol for herself. But I couldn't do that...I mean....Hell...I need one for me, too.

Yesterday was my first time to visit a range. I've been to fields and shot random animals or shirts hung on trees with lots of random rifles, but only three times in my days have I played with a pistol. If you can consider a double barreled sawed off shotgun a pistol. I mean...It can be held in a shoulder holster..Must be a pistil.

I practiced with a few revolvers of various caliber and found a Remington 38 quite comfortable in the revolver category. I played a bit with a Ruger 9mm, and it had zero recoil and was much easier to reload with the plethora of extra clips we had.

Katie, on the other hand, needs something much smaller...for her...hands. Glocks seem to fit the small hand thing nicely. Plus, they're really easy to cock and fire. Just a bit too small for me except for the average sized Glock 17.

I’ve narrowed it down to two models for myself and three models for Katie. I want some opinion on these. But it really boils down to Katie. I’m not getting anything for Katie without her testing it first hence her varied options. The ones I am looking at for myself are set and I will not be deterred, it just depends on which feels better.

For Katie:

Glock 19 9mm <-Smaller version of the Glock 17.
Glock 17 9mm
Springfield XD9301HC Service Model

For Me:

Ruger P90 45ACP
Ruger P97 45ACP

Opinions?

I'm no expert, but I'd say go for the one you feel is more comfortable and easier to use... You won't be firing twelvety thousandy rounds with it if it's for personal safety, I presume, so it doesn't really matter how reliable it is in harsh conditions or how quick it's to reload, eh?

But fuck it, as if I knew anything about guns in the first place.

You ALWAYS want the most reliable gun if you're going to use it to defend your life. The loudest noise in the world is the sound of a gun going click when it was supposed to go bang. You want quick reloads, just in case there's more than one. Just about anyone in the business of self defense shooting schools will tell you that you shoot until the threat is neutralized, that's generally when the bad guy falls down, and a single shot is not usually enough to bring a man down unless you hit him in the head, and even then it just pisses some people off.

Choosing the right weapon for personal defense is a rather important matter, You must find what works right for you and the little lady. For her, if she likes it, get the GLOCK19, even GLOCK haters like that particular weapon. The advantage to the GLOCK is that it's a pretty simple weapon, the trigger, although not the best, is decent and has the same pull every time, which is good for inexperienced shooters. Guns that have a double-action pull for the first shot and a single action pull for the rest, like my SIG, confuse some people and cause them to miss.

Also the GLOCK19 is highly concealable, so if she wants to get a permit to carry (assuming you can get one where you live, I forget). Small package with 15+1 shots in it, look around and you can find them for under $400.

As for you, I haven't any experience with Ruger P series. Perhaps though you should try out a SIG P220, or a 9mm like the wifey, that way the same ammo can be used in both guns. I'm really liking my P226 in 9mm. It's a larger service-type handgun, grip is quite comfortable. Although more spendy than GLOCKS and even the Rugers I think they're nicer, and SIG's a company that's been around a long time and generally has great customer service.

I would also suggest getting a shotgun, Remington 870 Police perhaps. Keep it next to the bed or something. You know, in case zombies show up.

Also, Ryno, you have the coolest wife EVAR.

"Honey, we need a gun, a handgun, so we can kill intruders."

You hit the jackpot my friend.

She's partial to Glocks already as her dad is a police officer and he recommended it to her. I've never used a Glock, nor do I know anyone who has, but she takes his word as gold, and frankly, if he is the one to recommend it to her, I'll follow his lead.

As for my pistol...I really like the Ruger P series. But then I started thinking...They can jam, and if they're going to jam, they will do it at the worst possible time. My dad has a Ruger 9mm and he swears by it. It's the one I played with yesterday. It was fun, but I felt like I had more control over the revolver. So I'm looking at .357 Mags revolvers...You know..The ones that can use .357, .38, and .38 +P ammo.

So I'm now thinking about a Rossi .357 Mag. or a Colt King Cobra for myself and a Rossi .38 Special for the wife.

This is the original long-barrel .357 in an affordable and reliable package. While they're built extra tough to handle all .357 Magnum cartridges, they will fire the popular .38 Special Standard and .38 Special +P rounds as well. As with all Rossi revolvers, the 972 carries the Taurus Security System and is covered by our Lifetime Repair Policy

Are Rossi any good?

Before you decide you ought to go to a range that has rental guns and check out some more, and don't make a decision for your wife. Let her pick the gun that works best for her. If she wants an auto, get her and auto, if she wants a revolver, then fine. The important thing is that she's comfortable with the weapon and knows how to use it. Practice, practice, practice. Soon enough it will become second nature, aiming like pointing your finger.

As for you, if you want a revolver then check out the Ruger GP-100. They're inexpensive but solidly built. I've never personally shot one, but the only bad thing I've heard about them is the trigger. In double action mode it's kind of clunky, but that's because the action is so solidly built. They're built to last.

I wouldn't advise getting a Colt revolver, not that they aren't good guns, it's just that they're rather expensive since Colt doesn't do the civilian thing anymore. Plus I just don't like how you open the cylinder. Instead of pushing a button or lever or something else, you have to pull the lock back, meaning you have to use both hands. Seriously, for the price of the Colt you could probably get two GP-100's.

I still wouldn't discount autos though, they do have a higher chance of breaking down because they have more parts, but modern automatics, so long as they're made by a reputable company and what have you, will perform as designed. Failures are very low. As I said though, whatever you're comfortable with, that's the gun you want.
