The Firearms Thread

Post by Aonaran »

As much as guns have been discussed lately I think it is about time to try another Gun Thread. I know it supposedly failed horribly in the past but hopefully there are enough noobs and existing members with poor long term memory to keep this alive.

Ideally this can serve as a place to go to with gun related questions or to post images of whatever weapon you are currently drooling over (don't guess it has to be confined to guns only).

So yeah, shoot.

Bang!

Ahhh, but what with?

Time for Fun Ammo!

Avenger: Hollow steel balls with a low gunpowder load. Short range and low recoil, with low penetration. Could be useful in a situation requiring low penetration, such as home defense. Semi-nonlethal.
Bird Bombs: An explosive payload, which (in theory) detonates on impact. Roughly equivalent to an m80 firecracker.
Bolo: Two heavy slugs connected by piano wire. Was once known as the garrote slug. While impossible to aim, the wire becomes a very hazardous blade at muzzle velocity.
Bouncer: Two zytel (nylon) balls. High muzzle velocity, very low penetration. Semi-nonlethal, like rubber bullets.
Chain reaction: A 6-inch length of chain. Impacts in a rather random pattern.
Comet: A regular shotgun slug with a red tracer.
Detonator: Essentially, a hollow lead slug with an explosive tip. It's made with for the purpose of filling with your own explosive or other payload, which then detonates on impact.
Door buster: Tiny lead pellets, approaching lead dust. Impacts with full force, but over a larger area, with very little penetration.
Dragon's Breath: Yes, these really do exist, and yes, you can order them for $16.98 each. White phosphorous that ignites upon being shot. Creates a 100-yard flamethrower that burns for about three seconds. Contrary to popular belief, this does not damage a smooth-bore shotgun.
Fire siren: A small weighted whistle. Incredibly loud at muzzle velocity. Wear ear protection.
Flash bomb: Like the bird bomb, above, but using a flash-powder incendiary instead of an explosive one.
Flechette: A whole bunch of needles. High penetration.
Hammer: A bean-bag round; a nylon bag filled with tiny shot. High impact, but theoretically nonlethal.
Mini Missile: A solid lead slug with a steel core. The lead slug peels away on impact, driving the core through hard targets (like armor.)
Napalm: Like the Bird Bomb, above, but filled with white phosphorous, which burns very hot upon impact.
Pit Bull: Six big lead pelletes, and one big slug. Not that exotic, really.
Shredder: A lot of sharp tacks. Short range, but high trauma to flesh.
Smoke bomb: Essentially, the Dragon's Breath Round, only using a smoke powder instead.
Stinger: 16 zytel (nylon) balls. Essentially, the rubber bullet for shotguns. Semi-nonlethal.
Super flare: A shotgun-launched flare.

So many choices.
Has anybody here tried any of these?

I posted this one before but it bears repeating...

Been researching the Thompson Center Encore. They come with the ability to interchange barrels, they also have quite a selection to choose from. If one was so inclined they could get 45-70 in a 9 inch. That would come pretty close to the end of the foregrip making it a verifiable "Hand Cannon." In case you are not familiar with the 45-70 gov't it was designed for killing Buffalo. Also if one was so inclined they could get a barrel chambered for both 45 colt (damn fun cartridge) and 410 shotgun ammo (would be great for plinking) in a 12 inch. Any less I believe and it would count as a sawed off and be highly illegal. As far as the picture is concerned I personally prefer the shotgun style barrel (bull) w/o scope but this was the best picture of the encore with a shorter barrel I could find.

As a side note no special permit, liscence or tax stamp is required to purchase or own this firearm.

I've never played BF2, so no. I like the Pancor Jackhammer because of Fallout. Best shotgun in the game. It was really good in Fallout: Tactics.

By that time I was already fapping to the picture.

It's so nice when DAC fucks up your post so you lose it...

I love it when that happens.

Here's a brief synopsis of what I had posted.

"I don't like guns that aren't real blah blahblahblah, the jackhammer never made it to production only a handful of working demo models were ever produced. Blah blah blah. Just like the OICW. It was a big gimmicky piece of shit that had no place on the battlefield, blah blah blah blah blah. It looks gay too. Blah blah blah, if you think the OICW or XM8 look cool, you're clearly gay. Blah blah blah blah blah."

So that pretty much sums that part up.

Um. I'm planning on buying the civilian version of the Vz.58 when they finally cross the border. Normally I wouldn't buy something like that, however it's a non-restricted firearm. Which makes it worth the purchase.

VZ-58?
Isn't that what the Japanese Red Army used in the Lod airport massacre?
Sweet!

Actually it's a Czech assault rifle. They've made a semi auto version for civvies, can't remember what it was called. It's basically a VZ.58 as far as I know.

It's got the general appearance of a Kalashnikov rifle, however mechanically it's different according to what I've heard.

Still. Non restricted + assault rifle configuration = Hell yes.

I'd also get an SL8 since I really enjoyed shooting that rifle, but they're bloody expensive and apparently it's legally relegated to varminting only because of it's small caliber. 2k is pretty expensive for a plinker. Especially when you compare it to the Czech rifle which sells for something like 380.00 cdn apparently.

I dunno. Did the Japs use Czech rifles? I'd be interested to know.

I fixed my Romanian AK. This is something worty of note :drunk: !

Out of all AK clones out there, I'm more likely to trust Yugoslavian weapons. I have their SKS, and am utterly satisfied with it (minus the silly bayonet and plus the real muzzle break, of course).

I believe he's talking about some Japanese terrorists. The Japanese make their own weapons, they don't generally buy other nation's weapons, especially ComBloc weapons. People just don't know it because they don't release civilian versions because I guess they don't think they can trust people with guns. Of course the Japanese are insane so it's slightly different.

Here in the States I haven't seen a civilian Vz58. We got some goofy import laws due to the 1989 import ban on "assault weapons" so that might explain it. Nobody really makes the kits to build them here and the civilian version made over there isn't the right configuration for import here. Things like the pistol grip and the ability to take a high capacity magazine, along with some other factors. In order to have a gun like that something like nine parts have to be U.S. made so it becomes a domestically produced "assault weapon" which are once again Kosher.

Now for the love of Christ, don't start bitching at me because the Assault Weapon Ban is over. There are two bans, the 1989 Import Ban on foreign made "assault weapons" which was signed in by President Bush Sr. by executive order and thus cannot expire unless it is voided or another Executive Order is signed to remove the first ban. The other was the 1994 Assault Weapon ban, which banned the production of domestic "assault weapons" and magazines over ten rounds for the domestic civilian market.

Redeye, I wouldn't use anything other than tried and true loads for self defense. If I have to shoot someone I want to make sure they stay down. None of that less than lethal shit for me. If one has to shoot another person it's prudent to make sure they don't get back up or simply eat those rubber pellets. Nothing says "shut the fuck up," like buckshot to the chest.

Anyhow, here be the collection so far. Actually the two shotguns are my dad's, but he doesn't shoot shotgun so I sort of stole them since I shoot trap and have my Small Game License so I can go out and catch me some lunch. I also got some new grips for the Hi-Power.

Image

Now I gotta focus on buying some more ammo for the three main guns, the SAR-1, the Hi-Power and the SMLE. .303British is expensive though, and M43 is going up as well. 9mm on the other hand is nice and cheap and I've got a can of 1,000 rounds sitting in the corner, so I'm set for pistol ammo I think... nah.

.303 British is damn expensive. Found that out after me and a friend bought twin Enfield No.4 Mk2's to rebuild/refurbish. Currently staining the wood and trying to figure how we want to finish the metal parts. Past all the cosmoline removal though, what a awful bitch that was.

It's not that expensive, it's about the same as .30/06, just harder to find cases of the shit, and most of it is highly corrosive surplus stuff. There's this brand from the Czech Republic that I really like though, it's new manufacture stuff.

I wouldn't try to refinish any C&R rifle, it's just wrong and kills the value. My No.4MkI is all matching parts and in damn good condition and I got it for $150. I saw other rifles in much worse condition, beat to hell, mismatched stocks for upwards of $350. Lick my nuts this one guy gave me a bitchrod deal on this thing. Had to go find the bayonet though, the blade type bayonets are really hard to find, and getting a frog for it is even harder. Spike bayonets are a dime a dozen though.

Think my No. 4 cost me 135. It's in great condition, not all matching but mostly and that which isn't exact is close. I'm thinking of putting a spray and bake finish on it because hand blueing can be so uneven. And no, it isn't ungodly expensive but it's expensive enough that you wince a little after shooting the last round of a box. I've looked into getting a bayonet as well but they just look so fagging goofy.
