Killing Floor Released

Post by Mad Max RW »

<strong>[ Mod -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... le=Killing Floor (Unreal Tournament 2004)">Mod: Killing Floor (Unreal Tournament 2004)</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... tle=Unreal Tournament 2004">Game: Unreal Tournament 2004</a>

<p>It's at least a month late, but the long awaited full version of the
<a href="http://www.unrealtournament.com/" target="_blank">UT2004</a> zombie mod <a href="http://www.killingfloor.freedomsnet.net/" target="_blank">Killing Floor</a> is finally available for
download. For those of you who don't remember, a small one-level
singleplayer demo was released early in the year. For something so bare
bones it was very cool. Think a first person Resident Evil without the
Japanese bullshit.

</p><p>If you own Unreal Tournament 2004 definitely give this thing
<a href="http://www.killingfloor.freedomsnet.net/" target="_blank">a look</a>. I'll share my impressions later.</p><p>Also,
be aware this release is <a href="http://mrkadish.proboards40.com/index.c ... 1125460514" target="_blank">very buggy</a>. And don't forget to check the
<a href="http://mrkadish.proboards40.com/index.c ... 1125489666" target="_blank">installation instructions</a>.

I ran around the singleplayer campaign for about an hour and it's not bad. Very VERY detailed. An actual singleplayer campaign is included with mission dialogue and whatever. You almost never see that in mods.
You start off in a destroyed London during a rainstorm. You're armed with a 9mm pistol and your fists. If you look around the city you'll find a nice axe. There's supposedly survivors to hook up with. That's the mission.

At first the whole city appears deserted. You just take in the environment. All the metal shudders smashing into windows, the rain pelting car hoods, empty stores on fire, smoke, fog, dark tunnels, big buildings and a central church towering above. Lots of man made obstructions to smash through. And when the zombies come it's very cool. There's obviously not enough ammo available, so you have to use it when it counts. Running around, smashing a zombie with the axe, setting up barriers to hold the crowds back, and trying to get the fuck out.

I don't have UT2k4, either. FPS just isn't my bag, baby.

I do not have Unreal Tournament 2004 for four reasons :

I have not purchased a computer game in the last five years.
I could not bring myself to waste bandwidth on stealing it.
I do not know anyone so lacking in taste as to have it in their possession, thereby allowing me to appropriate it.
I do not enjoy such games.

Oh well. I shall persevere. :drunk:

I just beat the singleplayer and it's surprisingly good. It's only about 5 or 6 levels, but every bit of it is well designed Killing Floor feels like a retail product minus the parts where the developers hold your hand all the way through. You might get lost finding the next destination. There's no giant glowing indicators telling you where to go. No radar with an arrow to point A and point B. You're not gonna find any of those damn Hannah Barbara style doors and switches that plagues so many games.

Killing Floor's short singleplayer crushes Doom 3.

Red Orchestra isn't bad, but it's not as good as MOH or COD.

This mod is pretty shit fyi. It looks worse than quake 2, the physics are messed up, there's no crosshair or iron sights, the AI is crap, the mp is just like Invasion mode and you have to sit through boring intros every time you start training or sp. And it's really buggy for a v1.0 release.

So don't bother. :chew:

If you actually want to play it you'll need the editors choice edition patch, as they forgot to include the textures in the release.

CoD was okay for an hour or two, but it grew old rather quickly.

I liked how in the mission where you wake up and the town's being attacked, if you leave the building too early you die instantly, even if there's no enemies or bomb shells dropping.

I tried the mod and i couldn't find any survivors in the city. I went to that church building ands its like "you need to find a way in", so I made more circles around the city.

Aiming sucks, looks like the guy is dancing with his gun.
