Exclusive, early Fallout concept art

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[Game -> Images]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... y">Company: Interplay</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... le=Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game">Game: Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game</a>

<strong>Ausir</strong>, Admin at our newest hosted site <a href="http://sad.duckandcover.cx">Sierra Army Depot</a>, has sent along some
extremely rare concept art from early in <em>Fallout</em>'s development that he recieved last year from someone called <strong>Deadlus</strong>.

These
pictures were drawn probably sometime in 1996, and scanned in from a Polish magazine of the same year.

<div align="center"><a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/disp ... -656"><img border="0" src="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/albu ... b_ovsr.png" /></a> <a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/disp ... -659"><img border="0" src="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/albu ... mb_if2.png" /></a> <a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/disp ... -657"><img border="0" src="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/albu ... rpheus.png" /></a> <a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/disp ... -658"><img border="0" src="http://www.duckandcover.cx/gallery/albu ... _iface.png" /></a>

</div>

As you can see, both the Overseer and Morpheus are drawn. I'm not
sure what the triangle image is supposed to be, and I think the
box-thing is a drawing of the interface (which I hope is retained in
some form in <em>Fallout 3</em>). These pictures are not available anywhere else on the internet as far
as Ausir knows, and they're a lot more interesting than concept art
from <a href="http://wiki.duckandcover.cx/index.php?t ... Buren">Van Buren</a>.

Thanks again <strong>Ausir</strong>.

Update: the art apparently isn't as rare as first thought; it's been
established the pictures have been on a few other sites as well.

Bizarro triangle is indeed an old interface concept. You can see the Triangle of Doom in some really old screens.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Seconded? How can you second a piece of information? Huh? Am I missing something?
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Someone is an expert at missing the point.

Regardless, fairly nice find. It's atleast a break from "OMG VAN BUREN ARTWORK" as I can actually play Fallout.

I've seen some of these before, long, long ago. Possibly the U.V., or Interplay forum, but I'm not sure. There were a couple of those in color, the Overseer, and triangle input device were the ones if I'm not mistaken. It was in '97 so it's a little foggy.

Pretty snazzy. Thank god they changed the interface from that wankish pyramid thing.

What the fuck does the Illuminati pyramid have to do with Fallout....?

Why do they mix Illuminati into every god damn movie, book and game today!?

They were on Sierra Army Depot (Ausir's site) a year ago, but that's the only place they've been I think.

Well, they might have been at UV or IPLY earlier, too.

That kind of negates them being "extremely rare".

And since they're from another (albeit hosted) site, how're they "exclusive"?

Especially if they've been there for a year but nobody noticed.

No, it doesn't, because neither UV nor Interplay have them. SAD is one of the very few if not the only places (in fact I don't remember seeing them anywhere else) where you can find these sketches today.

Because DAC has the exclusive rights to these files from Ausir, who owns them.

A lot of people did, even if you personally never bothered to visit SAD, hardcore Fallout fan that you are. The fact that the concept art was brought to public attention by Teatime does not mean that everyone suddenly "discovered" them - it's not uncommon for news staff to repost resources others have found and posted on DAC (or NMA, or #fallout in fact) years ago.

In other news, no one cares about that dead VB game.

Fallout 1 has been out of production now longer than VB has. Logically then VB concept art is fresher than Fallout 1 concept art.

Doesn't mean it's not interesting, though, because it is. Like Odin said somewhere on NMA, we post all concept art etc., be it Fallout 1, 2, Tactics or Van Buren, as we get it.

Oh, that reminds me, I forgot to draw your attention to this:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_ ... ?cat_id=42

We've had those pics since May 2004 now. I'd like to ask a favour and have the terms "extremely rare", "exclusive" and "nowhere else on the internet" removed from that newsposts, since they're all...well...not true?
