No, the powergrids are not one and the same. If they were, much of Quebec would have also been knocked out, which is wasn't.

The U.S. is caught with their pants down once again.

Everyone thinks they're so safe, but they're not.

Things happen. Bad things. Unpredictable things.

I was pretty disgusted with how some people were reacting to the power outages. I saw some people on TV crying like they were going to die.

The power goes out all the time over here. We just go with it. Get out the candles and read a book.

My favorite scene from these outages was the thousands of people walking through the dead-locked interstates...

The power around my area goes off at least once a week for at least 2 to 3 hours at a time..That's how you learn to cook on a grill instead of in a microwave.

There was a tornado that ran through here in May, knocked out power across the area for upwards of 3 days...I never once saw anyone wandering blankly through the streets, nor was there looting, pillaging, or raping....Things just got really boring for a few days.

This only shows how vulnerable we are, we need to get rid of a buch of luxuries so we can become hard core, bad ass Americans and we would be all like Rambo and what not. That would be awesome.

CA had black outs like every other day, yet it wasn't big national news like this.

On Larry King Live they brought Gray Davis on and asked him how the eastern side should go about in fixing the problem. It was amusing, to say the least.

Actually, it would be pretty kick ass running through New York at night in a black out. A lot of people gone, extremely dark because all those ad lights are off, and plenty of stuff to steal. (Taking into account that shopkeepers have shotguns, be prepared kids!)

^Not for no reason. Either it was too hot to sleep inside without air conditioning or they just couldn't get home.

It was also one of the few times in recent history where you could see stars in the sky above Manhattan.

People there must be happy it ain't *winter* yet. It's a lot worse when it's -20 degrees and snowing outside. You ain't doin' much without power :?

Very true. Quebec and a lot of Ontario's power (bits of the US too, I think) was knocked out by an Ice Storm in 1998 in January, knocking out most people's heating.

I never heard about that, but hey you have to do what you have to do when it comes to that kind of stuff, and by that I mean looting! If I where in New York when this happened I would have taken shit left and right, I would probably think it was WWIII, the way my over-active imagination works.
