Politics?

Post by Ganymedes »

I just had to check... What political ideology is most popular among Fallout gamers...? I know that polls are kind of corny, but nonetheless...
After a recent political rant in a thread on this forum, my political antennas popped out of my forehead and I suddenly felt a great urge to argue...

It's a mix of socialism and environmentalism. A socialism built on democracy, that is. Trying to create a community, in which an individual can be itsself, but has something to fall back on when he/she deserves it.

Anarchy isn't actually that bad. And I'm not talking that bullshit trench coat clad, eastern europlean cliched terrorist/anarchist. Try reading Anarchy by Malatesta, its a good idea but probably unworkable. It's sort of like communism but without the state and the instruments of control it uses.

Realism or Machiavellianism deserves a class of its own.
I'm leaving this galaxy for one less complicated.

Hey, I didn't actually say that I was an anarchist, I just mentioned it. If you look more closely I actually say that it is probably unworkable. Next time you criticise me please be a little more specific and concise rather than just telling me that I'm wrong.

Vote: Other

I have both Socialist and Libertarian leanings, which I suppose pushes me somewhere near the Anarchists. Other than that, all I have to say is that anyone to the Right of Leon Trotsky is a fascist pig!

[edit]: Anyone giving boywoos shit about Anarchism who hasn't at least read Bakunin risks sticking their foot several meters down their gullet. [/edit]

I'll say Liberalism. Mainly because I don't know what it is (says the man working in a political office)

Here's a confusing quote:
Liberalism can be understood as (1) a political tradition (2) a political philosophy and (3) a general philosophical theory, encompassing a theory of value, a conception of the person and a moral theory as well as a political philosophy. As a political tradition liberalism has varied in different countries.

In England --- in many ways the birthplace of liberalism --- the liberal tradition in politics has centred on religious toleration, government by consent, personal and, especially, economic freedom.

In France liberalism has been more closely associated with secularism and democracy.

In the United States liberals often combine a devotion to personal liberty with an antipathy to capitalism.

The liberalism of Australia tends to be much more sympathetic to capitalism but often less enthusiastic about civil liberties.
http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/liberalism/

I'm in Australia..... So I'm pretty sure that means I'm a capitalist pig. Not sure though, I haven't read the article fully. Seriosuly though, as a guy working in politics, labels are used loosely. It's hard to pin anyone down to a specific category, they're simply used as generalisations, mainly because of the plethora of issues that are around and the equally dizzying range of ideas about those issues.

My political compass
Economic Left/Right: -2.00
Authoritarian/Libertarian: 0.62

I'm not totally suprised be this... I'm fairly conservative with some liberal leanings.

Examples of Viktorism:-

Genuine assylum seekers = come on in BUT freeloading scum go home!

Can't work = get social security BUT won't work = f**king starve then!

Greater personal freedom = yes BUT steal my car = hands chopped off!

Just goes to show the basic duality of man, I guess....

Well, let's see...

I think morality is subjective.

I generally think of religion as an inveterate disease -- a symbol of our collective stupidity as a species that we've yet to 'grow out of.'

This would mean tossing all the political views based on religion out the window.

I think certain drugs should be legal.

I think abortion should be legal and should not even be an issue.

heh... it really doesn't concern me what people do, who they fuck or what they put in their bodies, as long as it's their decision to make. I don't like sitting on a high horse and preeching down to people my personal moral beliefs. I don't believe in basing laws on a moral high ground.

So guess I'm somewhere out there on the left, even though I don't stick to any specific political doctrine.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -5.75
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -6.41

no surprise.
the test was suggestive though. they almost fed you the libertarian answers in the questions.
still, i do believe most of the folks on the non-religious side of the internet are free-thinking libertarian kind of leftists.

fucken' labeling.
