they will likely change the currency though, as in the notes to prevent such profiteering. If they issue new currency you'll be able to exchange the old stuff for the new, just like with the Deutsch Mark back in the '90s. If you know where to look it's easy to keep abreast of things like that. The ...

The Iraqi Dinar was worth 3 USD even after Iraq's defeat in the Gulf War. It remained at that rate all the way until the Baathist regime was overthrown in '03. One USD is currently worth nearly 1,500 Iraqi Dinar. An enterprising soul might pick up 1,000 USD worth of Dinar and wait for the country to...

Personally, I'm not convinced that Ralph Nader -- or any third party candidate, for that matter -- is going to pave the way to utopia. I do, however, think that a lot of them offer a better solution to the challenges that face the US of A than either of the ruling parties. If you're going to succumb...

Do you have like the foot place holdlers so your foot doesn't slip? I would find that pretty useful when riding tough terrain or a wet city. I replaced my original metal ones with like super metal grips with metal pegs in it which made it unlikely your foot would slip but if it did you would be in ...

Bicycling is a subject near and dear to my heart since it's my primary mode of transportation. Some guys think it's funny that I'm a Staff Sergeant who doesn't own a car, but I make it a point to stop and laugh at them when I see them refueling at $4.25/gallon (read: getting flensed at the pump). I ...

I believe there was an oversight in this topic, namely Nader/Gonzales. Nader's managed to get on the ballot in NM, AZ and HI and there is still time to get on the ballot in other states. That would be who I'm voting for, even if the Dems manage to embroil his ballot access drive in another legal bat...

MBT-70 pretty much did everything that the later M1 did. However, the US gov't didn't feel like spending $1 million/copy in 1970 dollars. (So they ended up spending $2.4 million in 1983 dollars...) I recall seeing one of the MBT 70 prototypes on Ft. Knox in a traffic circle back in '90. I wonder if ...

The only Army schools I've been to didn't deal too much with military theory since Sergeants don't really need to know that sort of stuff. I became interested in Machiavelli in college largely because he gets such a bad rap for being a bastard. So I read The Prince and concluded that people were ove...

Machiavellis Dell'arte della guerra is completely absurd. Just though you should know. the guy though guns were useless and impractical, and did not view cavalry as an important part of a modern (aprox. 1600ad) army. Thanks for squaring me away on that one. I really don't feel like scrolling throug...

A: Sounds like he commands a tank platoon. Actually you lead a platoon, you don't command it. (Your platoon leader can't give you an Article 15...) That means hed leave the wire regularly. Hold on, I think the PL in our attached tank platoon wants to have a word with you. I don't know what your MOS...

[civil war is] propably a natural reaction after 25 years of sadistic dictatorship. Actually, the Baathists came to power back in '68. I'm not sure what the interrim gov't was that held power between'58 when the monarchy was overthrown and '68 when the Baathists came to power, but IIRC it was a mil...

Where is OTB? He's left the luscious greens of Germany for the rather dreary, dusty streets of Baghdad, I'm afraid. Things aren't so bad here. We just got the barracks wired for internet access, so I've a crappy, 3rd-World broad-band connection at my disposal. I swear it's slower than dial-up half t...
