Another update.

While I do still exist, I'm dealing with other stuff in the dreaded Real Life right now and will be for quite a while. This project may be on the back burner for several weeks before I get around to putting in some serious time on it.

Just an update. The map is coming together okay (first real one; I'm having to figure some stuff out as I go). To address points, I'm not putting in bows/slings/other medieval era weaponry (the crossbows are going to be modern, naturally.) This is because while the villagers are not modern-level, th...

It might be interesting to replace the 'club' sprite with a gun sprite; since you don't have any ammo, you go around beating people over the head with it :D

It's a random encounter like all the rest. I once wandered the entire map seeking the Alien Blaster and Level 21, and occasionally it'd stop for water. Proximity to towns or time in the waste seems to have no bearing.

The raiders will have limited ammo too; I don't want them spraying randomly and indefinately. "Wait until he's out of ammo" will be a valid tactic, although then you don't get any of the ammo, either, which sucks. Also, you need to be in harm's way to attract his fire, and since your armou...

Villagers' side, of course. I think it'll be a learning experience from the other guy's point of view, as it were, when a hummer full of BoS bastards pulls up in the town square and out pours a full squad in metal armour with M16s -and your best weapon is that UZI you took from the raider leader, an...

I just made up the plot as I went along. I might do second instalment in which a squad of BoS arrive toting M16s (this is why the raiders were fleeing east) and try to 'pacify' the town in order to get to the bunker beneath.

Brainstorming: Low Tech Mission

Having pretty much finished my 'Balanced Weapons' mod, although unreleased (nobody downloads those anyway, heh), I'm moving on to making a map. It's going to be a Mad Max type of map, with mostly spearguns and stuff, with the most basic of firearms highly prized. The plot: You live in a stockaded vi...

Might be interesting to make a level with all technology knocked down a step; spearguns, pointy sticks and close combat.

From my perspective, he couldn't. I don't know the cheat codes.

This is beside the point. Adaptation is doing what must be done to survive. Cheating is not neccessary for survival in Fo2.

He was using a shotgun and leather jacket out of neccessity; they were the best he could find, while everyone else was using spear-guns. If you're going to play an adaptive Max, limiting weapons is slightly silly if he adapts in other ways. Consider; if you gave him a suit of Power Armour and an HK ...

Well, with maximum perks, traits, AG and a truckload of chems, you'd have maybe 4, 5 attacks with that shottie per round. But that wouldn't even dent him.

You'd need to play a diplomatic/stealth/science character to win as Mad Max, and then you just wouldn't be Mad Max.

A game with only low-tech weapons might as well be a 'Pacifist' game (which does work) because low-tech weapons cease to work very quickly (remember, we're not trying to engineer failure or make the game frustrating here). The beauty of Jet is the permanent addiction. All the other chem addictions e...

That's foolish. They could use plasma and laser rifles in FO1 & 2. Would changing the ingame sprite fix it?

Playstyle Challenges

It seems to me the game could be a lot more interesting if played through with 'challenges'; intentionally handicapping your character in order to force new solutions to the game's problems. There are a few obvious ones I've come up with, such as having one stat really, really low (a Stupid Game or ...

Er, as I recall the FoT Lewis was already 30-06. I chambered the Chauchat in 30-06 (this is kind of a joke weapon, it fires only one 10rd burst before falling apart, but you can pick it up from the corpses of some raider bosses who I felt needed better weapons. They have working, nonlootable version...

Burning Surplus Ammunition.

I'm playing around with the available weapons in the game. Again. This time, though, my attention has turned to massive surpluses of ammunition. I'm trying to come up with weapons that can eat away all that ammo at such time as it becomes obsolete or in supply so plentiful it's embarrassing (ie, the...

It's like a messy room. It looks godawful, but the person living in it knows more or less where everything is.

If anyone else would like to try this, I can give a copy of the recycling ammo part of the QM list for editing (since it takes a long time to make this part of the list from scratch).
