What’s your name?

Anthony Oakden but everyone calls me Tony.

What’s your job description / position?

Producer - Basically I try to coordinate the different disciplines which make up the project and panic when things don't get finished on time.

How long have you been doing this stuff?

I finished my first 8bit game in 1988, an arcade adventure called Quest, for the Acorn range of micros ( I still remember how excited I was when I found I could use the bottom 128 bytes of the stack page for additional work space :). I have been doing it on and off ever since. I had a brief break between 1990 and 1994 when I went to Uni and did my degree in Comp Sci and Electronic Engineering.

What stuff have your worked on in the past?

Most recently I worked at Reflections in England, I started as one of two engineers working on the PSX version of Driver. Later I became Team lead on Driver 2 but I left half way though the project to come to Oz and start a new life. Before that I wrote software for fruit machines.

If you could make any game you wanted, what’d it be?

A big arcade adventure with loads of interesting puzzles and an emphasis on carefully crafted game play rather than gimmicks.

What are a few of your favourite games?

I liked Zelda Links awakening on the gameboy, Tetris, and I'm currently trying to get into Final Fantasy 8. My all time faves are; Citadel on the BBC micro,Philosophers Quest on the BBC Micro and Riven on the PC.

What do you think will happen to computer games in years to come?

Get more like films where there are still some good titles done independantly but the bulk are big budget things driven by the tastes of the mass market as perceieved by a few studio bosses.

What do you usually do outside of work? (Extra-curricular activities?)

Go to the Gym (I'm struggling with my weight again). Walking, watching tely and cooking ( this does not fit in well with going down the gym to control my weight!).

What are a few of your favourite films?

Wizard of Oz, Pulp Fiction, Alien, Terminator, My Fair Lady, Train Spotting, Austin Powers, Breakfast at Tiffanys, The Pink Panther, Top Hat

What was the last film you saw?

MI2- Which I thought was pants.

Is there anything worthwhile on TV?

Not on Oz terrestrial which is great if you like sport, which I don't. Otherwise the only things which I watch are a kids cartoon called "Dragon Balls" which is just strange and "Australia's best home videos" which I don't like but watch with a kind of morbid fascination - how readily people will humiliate themselves for a few hundred bucks!

What kind of music do you listen to?

Country, Punk, Soul, Some Club Music, Some Classical, Some Jaz

What are a few of your favourite musical artists?

Steps, Underworld, The Clash, Abba, George Michael, Rolling Stones Pretty tasteless really

What are a few of your favourite books?

I used to be heavily into Sci Fi but my tastes have changed and now I don't read enough to have favourites anymore.

What celebrity would you be interested in meeting?

The Queen, "God Bless Her!"

What’s in your home computer rig?

PII 300 with 128 Meg of Ram it's not that special but then why would I want a shit hot computer at home anyway?

What electronic ‘gadget’ do you wish you had?

An offline memory device of somekind which I could plug into the back of my head so that I would not keep forgetting things. Also a spell check for my head. I would not want Microsoft in my head though.

What type of car do you drive?

A two year old Mistubishi V6 Magna - My wife drives it most of the time I normally walk everywhere.

What type of car do you wish you drove?

BMW 5 series - I guess I must be getting old!

What’s your favourite pizza?

Tommato, Cheese, Pineapple, Chillie and Anchovie Hmmm Food :)

Coke or Pepsi?

Tea

Boxers or Briefs?

Boxers but with plenty of Lycra (I need all the support I can get)

Thanks Tony!
