Mad Max In Africa? [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Mon 24 Feb 2003, 2:59 PM

According to Variety, Kennedy-Miller Productions will be filming Mad Max: Fury Road in Namibia, Africa. This has been rumored for a long time, so I am not too surprised. Here is what they had to say on the issue:

Kennedy Miller Productions, producer of Mad Max: Fury Road, in which Mel Gibson will reprise the role he created in 1979, have decided to film on location in Namibia, Africa rather than outback New South Wales, says Variety.

Panavision Australia topper Dennis Noonan says he believes they chose that African locale because they can accommodate the cast and crew much closer to the desert than is possible in Australia.

Noonan still hopes Panavision will get the chance to service the production in Namibia. Also, there's unconfirmed talk that "Fury Road" may shoot some interiors Down Under.

The release date for Fury Road is still July 23, 2004. Spotted at Coming Soon!

Shattered Oasis UT2003 Mod [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Sun 23 Feb 2003, 6:04 AM

The post apocalyptic genre is getting popular among first person shooters, lately. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. The most recent I discovered is Shattered Oasis for Unreal Tournament 2003.

So far they mostly have concept renders for weapons, characters, and maps, as well as a few in-game screenshots. Several more were posted in their forum if you are interested. Spotted at PlanetUnreal.

Slamak has been slacking on his real story updates but its ok, I've been slacking on the kid pool for ages now. He has however come across a Fallout ICQ skin that actually works. Check it out here.

The best Polish Fallout site on the web has turned two years old. Happy birthday to the Sierra Army Depot. Keep up the good work Ausir.

Devastation Interview [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Killzig | Related News Items Sat 22 Feb 2003, 9:11 PM
I'm not sure if MM RW has posted this yet or not but ah well. I just saw it so it's news to me. The X-men 2 Movie Site has an interview with one Vic DeLeon on the upcoming Post Apoc FPS DEVASTATION!*

Out of all the first-person shooters coming out next year, why should a gamer put down their hard-earned cash for Devastation?

Because I say so! Actually, gamers should be interested because Devastation is going to offer a very different experience from a lot of shooters out there. It isn’t going to be incredibly taxing on your brain, offering a serious dose of Hollywood action, but it isn’t going to be a mindless shoot-em-up either. If you want to play strategically, you can, and work with your environment and your teammates to take out the troopers. Or, you can go in akimbo SMG’s a’ blazing and mow down your enemies. It’s your choice.

I think the style and feel will be a big draw. We expect a big response from the community too, especially when people realize how easy this game is to mod. We will be releasing the toolsets for the game, as well as thousands of prefabs, and look forward to the demented, twisted and incredibly fun maps that designers out there will come up with. With strong multiplayer, a deep and different singleplayer story and easy editing tools, Devastation will be a solid buy for any gamer.

Unfortunately, no one has asked why they felt the urge to immortalize Eminem in a FPS. Click here to read the fluff...interview.

¹You're mocking this game aren't you? Yes, yes I am.

    Even More Devastation [ N/A -> N/A ]
    Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Sat 22 Feb 2003, 6:01 AM

    Just when you think they are going to take a break two more previews show up. Here is a taste of each:

    • GameSpot - With its impressive graphics and physics, as well as a unique multiplayer game style, Devastation aims to stand out from the crowded market of first-person shooters. The press preview gave us a promising taste of what PC shooter fans can look forward to seeing when Devastation ships in late March.

    • PC Shooter - The weapon selection in Devastation is incredible. There are 3 types of sniper guns, two shotguns, 3 variations of Uzi-type guns (both single and double-handed), nail guns, all sorts of machine guns, a laser gun with sight, 4 types of grenades, and, a rat drone. What more could you want?

    Also be sure to check the Devastation homepage for 14 new concept sketches and screenshots.

    Devastation Preview Roundup [ N/A -> N/A ]
    Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Fri 21 Feb 2003, 8:24 PM

    Here is a couple more previews spotted for Devastation, due in stores late March:

    • Boomtown - The variety in the gameplay forces you to change your playing habits depending on the mode, because of the change in even the simplest battles. Many is the time Ive enjoyed kicking an explosive barrel past some cover that a group of enemies are using to shield themselves, shooting it once to get fuel leaking from its casing and again to detonate everything.

    • PC.IGN.Com - The first thing you'll notice when you turn on Devastation, aside from the simplistic, easily navigable options menu, is the graphics. Imagine Unreal II, only filled without about a billion more things to interact with in the environments. Now, increase the environment sizes by a factor of ten, decrease the horrendous loading time by a factor of twenty, and then make it run smooth. Congratulations, you're playing Devastation. I've played Raven Shield, Splinter Cell, UT 2003 and Unreal II, and this one runs better than those, with even more luster than most. It's uncanny. Shadows, textures, texture detail, physics, stuff, it's all here.

    Deathlands On SciFi [ N/A -> N/A ]
    Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Fri 21 Feb 2003, 8:02 PM

    According to a local forum post the SciFi Channel will air a movie version of the post apocalyptic book series, Deathlands. We are not entirely sure if this will be a movie, a mini series, or something else. Here is the description at the SciFi homepage:

    In 2104, powerful tyrants rule a ravaged Earth populated by a mix of humans and mutants. A heroic few band together to overthrow injustice - but their leader's familial ties may do them more harm than good in this adaptation of James Axlers Deathlands novels. Vincent Spano and Traci Elizabeth Lords (First Wave) star.

    Apparently Deathlands is a long running series of about 61 books. There is a full list at Post Apocalyptic Media for you to skim through and get an idea what it is all about. I personally never read any of these books, but they sound pretty cool.

    Thanks to Jack_Deth for the heads up.

    Feargus speaks the bad talk again [ N/A -> Interview ]
    Posted by Saint_Proverbius | Related News Items Thu 20 Feb 2003, 10:32 AM
    HomeLAN Fed has done up a nifty little Q&A with El Presidente Feargus Urquhart:

    HomeLAN - You recently announced that you want to get Fallout 3 under development at some point. Have you thought at all about what the general gameplay design will be like for the sequel?

    Feargus Urquhart - That's a tough question to answer without having a horde of screaming people at my door asking for my head. :) However, I can say what I've been saying for a while, which is that Fallout 3 will still feel and play a lot like the previous Fallouts. It will need to be a more modern game though in relation to how the game plays and the graphics engine involved. What I mean by that is that we will be using a 3D engine and there will most likely be a real-time combat mode. I know there are people out there that feel this ruins Fallout, but I think they will be surprised as to how well it works once they play it.

    Uhhh.. The most important feature is missing here.. The kewl minigun particul effex0rz!
