Fallout 1.5 Resurrection [ Game -> Mod News (DO NOT USE - use MOD > UPDATE instead) ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Sun 09 Nov 2003, 10:07 PM

Ratman sends word the site for his Czech mod, Fallout 1.5 Resurrection, has been translated to English along with news the full translation of the game will be out a couple months after release. In the mean time you can check the homepage for the beginning of the story, screenshots, and wallpapers. Right now their English isn’t too hot, but will hopefully improve with future updates.

atoga randomly pimps Fallout P&P dealy [ Game -> Update ]
Posted by atoga | Related News Items Sun 09 Nov 2003, 1:58 AM
For those who are interested, I’m writing a new Fallout PnP, which has been renamed to Fallout Unlimited or something similarly interesting, though not actually Fallout Unlimited since Jason Mical is using that name and he wouldn't let me use it too. Fallout Unlimited is plenty cool – thankfully, there’s not much more in the way of rules (the old, clunky combat rules have been cut down, and lots of rules for social situations, thieving, etc. have been added to give the game depth, though without creating a nauseating level of detail). Plus, I’ve added plenty of interesting new things (perks, traits, critters, equipment, skill system) to the game. Finally, I’ve done away with a lot of the old stuff that only works in a CRPG, and added lots of PNP RPG elements as well so that things play out nicely (and yes, I’ve playtested it).

Anyway:
* Some short (1-2 pages) and appropriate Fallout fanfic would be nice. Nothing too complicated for those who don’t know the Fallout setting that well (no Brotherhood soldiers going deathclaw hunting, for instance) – something short which established the general feel of Fallout.

* Fallouty recipes would also be appreciated. As bonus material, I’m including a cookbook (and some other neat stuff I thought up) at the end.

* If you have any other material, art, or ideas – then submit, submit, submit. I’ll probably use it or at least consider it (and I’ll give you full credit too).
When should this all be done? Well, the rough writing portion is nearly finished, though editing is needed. Formatting, too, is established, though is not done (happily, Fallout Unlimited is formatted in a similar way to the old Fallout 1 manual, right down to the leathery cover, and looks very nice, though I’ll need to convert it from Word to a .pdf). So anyway, barring any weird delays, it’ll probably be done around Decemberish, and be released shortly thereafter. At the ABSOLUTE latest, it should be released early next year. And no, I'm not bluffing.

So, if you have any questions or comments about the above stuff, or want to submit, please email (or PM, or whatever) me at atoga_666@falloutpnp.net

The shooter set in chernobly, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion lost has updated the site with some new content.

Screenshots were added of sunsets and day/night cycles that have been recently implemented in the game. There's also some more alternative theories about Chernobyl, this one mostly detailing a top-secret unit named Chernobyl-2 that specialized in potential psychic weaponary.

J.E. Jumps Ship! [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Fri 07 Nov 2003, 8:52 PM

Here’s something to brighten up your day (you decide if I’m being sarcastic):

I figured I'd post this here before DAC and NMA got the scoop! I am resigning from my position as lead designer at Black Isle Studios. I will not discuss those reasons here, but I will state that they are my reasons. I apologize to those who may be disappointed by my decision and congratulate those who rejoice at it. My last day will be November 21st.

From this point forward, I will not be discussing any aspect of Black Isle Studios projects that may be currently in development.

So what’s going to happen with J.E. Sawyer no longer head of Fallout 3? You can check the original post at the Interplay boards.

The Day After Tomorrow [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Thu 06 Nov 2003, 10:56 PM

I heard very little about this movie up until recently. I’m still not entirely sure what it’s about, but basically the environment goes insane and another ice age takes place. The official website for The Day After Tomorrow just launched where you can view the first trailer. I got a kick out of seeing New York buried in more snow than you can imagine.

The Day After Tomorrow is expected in theaters May 2004. Thanks to KruddMan for the heads up.

Next up is Cheesesteak, the new resident modeler. A few pics of his previous work are on the front page. Before taking off there’s a few new renders of the Survivor character and updated Interceptor images to check out.

Vivendi and Interplay have kissed and made up [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Kreegle | Related News Items Thu 06 Nov 2003, 6:42 AM
GameSpy Daily reports:
Vivendi Universal Games and Interplay, have resolved a lawsuit related to a distribution agreement between the two that went sour. Details on how the matter was settled out of court were not disclosed. VU Games will resume its distribution of Interplay's games including Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel in Asia Pacific and North America and any other Interplay titles in those regions until 2005.
Wow, blimey! I didn't even know that they'd broken up! Shit, I didn't even know that Interplay were going to survive until 2005! Thanks for the tip, Matt.

Warzone 2100 petition [ Community -> Update ]
Posted by Saint_Proverbius | Related News Items Mon 03 Nov 2003, 2:23 AM
The guys over at Pumpkin-2 have started a petition to get Eidos to release the source code for Warzone 2100, which is probably the best RTS not too many people have heard of.. But it's post apocalyptic so I figured you guys might be interested.

Released in April 1999 Warzone 2100 was the first 3D Real-Time-Strategy game. It stood-out back then and almost 5 years later it remains unrivaled in its particular innovations. Pumpkin Studios created it and Eidos Interactive distributed it. Warzone 2100 was advertised very little, and after 7 months and 10 patches Pumpkin Studios was disbanded and shortly thereafter Eidos ended all support for the game.

This is where you can help.

In October of 1999 NEWST was formed to continue enhancing and supporting the game. In February of 2003 NEWST became Pumpkin-2. Over the years, members of the group have created mods, maps, editors, utilities, Artificial Intelligences and even an anti-cheating game server. Warzone 2100 is a game that commanded our continued support. We simply could not let it die with the demise of its creators.

But we have reached an impasse and this is where your vote can help make a difference.

In order to continue Warzone 2100?s evolution we need the source code. This petition's mission is to draw Eidos Interactive's attention to the persistent interest in the game. They are the legal owners of the copyright and have (to-date) shown no intent to do anything with the source code.

Pretty slick game if you haven't played it, and you can probably get it dirt cheap if you can find it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Bits [ Game -> Update ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Tue 28 Oct 2003, 8:42 PM

There’s been a good amount of activity concerning S.T.A.L.K.E.R. this past week. IGN and ToTheGame received a handful of new screenshots. Here’s a couple sampled from Shacknews today:

I should also mention Guru3D and Gamers Depot offered their impressions of S.T.A.L.K.ER. based on a recent presentation at NVIDIA Editor's Day 2003. They don’t go into much detail and photos weren’t allowed, but they seemed to genuinely dig the showing. Anyway, there are a few more goodies I didn’t mention at the official site.

Trinity - A Polish Post Apocalyptic RPG [ N/A -> N/A ]
Posted by Mad Max RW | Related News Items Tue 28 Oct 2003, 12:19 AM

I’ve seen brief mentions of this game at Vault Dweller’s homepage, but never knew what to make of it because everything was in Polish. Today j200 sent an explanation of what Trinity is all about:

All starts from chosing our parents. A couple of different personalities, with different traits, social status and skills. By chosing parents for your character you decide about some traits your character will recive in the moment of birth. Later all of them can be modified. You also decide how old will you start your adventure. When you will finish creating your character it's time for the creating of the world. In that case you will place the frontline and chose where the a-bombs will drop. You press [Enter]... Year 2002. War is a fact...
Main features
  • full 3d, pseudo izometric view with the ability to rotate the camera
  • FUDGE rpg system (http://www.fudgerpg.com)
  • building the world by placing the frontline and chosing where the nuclear bombs exploded
  • complicated system of NPC's and quests interdependent from the world that we created

There’s some concept images over here. An English translation is supposedly on the way.
