A new preview of the Diablo-meets-post-apocalypse game Restricted Area is up on IGN.
Character development plays a large role in this game. Each time you
destroy an enemy or complete a mission, you'll gain experience points.
Gain enough of these and you'll increase your character's level and be
given the option to spend points to raise their basic abilities and
skills. Abilities enhance your overall performance and thresholds;
skills grant bonuses to certain actions. For instance, if you want to
do more damage in ranged combat, you'll want to raise the strength
ability; if you want to do more damage with the shotgun, you'll want to
buy the shotgun skill. There's a separate pool of upgrade points for
both abilities and skills, so you can really tailor your character to
the way you're playing.
So you can get better at using a weapon by putting skill points into
said weapon's skill tree. I don't know if that's a sign that character
development plays a large role in the game, or just, "well, duh".
